Privacy
What this site records about a visit, what the contact form stores, how long we keep it, and how to say no. Short, because there is little to tell.
In one paragraph
This site sets no cookies and gives you no identifier. We count visits in aggregate with our own code, on our own hosting, and share nothing with advertising or analytics companies. When you write to us through the contact form, we keep what you wrote, with your name and email, so that we can answer. That is the whole of it.
What we count
When a page loads, our server records: the page, the language, the site you came from (its name only, never the full address), any campaign tags in the link you clicked, your country, and the owner of the network you are on if it is a company or an institution rather than an internet provider. While you read, it records how far you scroll, how long the page is actively in front of you, and which buttons you press. Nothing here can tell one visitor from another, and nothing is written to your device.
Your IP address is used for a moment to stop abuse and is not stored with these counts.
What the contact form stores
Your name, email, company if you gave one, your message, your language, the page you were on, where this visit started, and your country. We also keep your IP address for one hour to limit floods, and the owner of your network if it is an organisation. This is personal data under the GDPR. We process it because you asked us a question (Article 6(1)(b)) and keep it for 24 months after our last exchange, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first.
Messages are stored on Cloudflare in the European Union. Nobody outside Kalevala.dev reads them.
What we do not do
No advertising pixels, no session recording, no fingerprinting, no identifying individual visitors, no buying or selling of contact lists, no newsletter unless you tick a box asking for one.
Saying no
Set your browser's Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track and our code stays quiet. Or use the Analytics switch at the bottom of every page; it remembers your choice on this device only, which is the one thing we store, and only if you ask us to.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it. Write to toimeksianto@kalevala.dev and a person answers within a week. If we fail you, the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi) handles complaints.
Who we are
Kalevala.dev is run by two people, one in Finland and one in India. The site runs on Cloudflare's European network. Company details are published here as soon as registration completes.
